Home of the yearly Strawberry Festival, Chadbourn North Carolina has a population of 1,527 in 2024. Located in Columbus County, Chadbourn United Methodist Church has a long and history of Christian service to the town and the surrounding community. The church has been a presence in the town of Chadbourn for many years. Chadbourn United Methodist Church was first founded in 1897 from members of the disbanded Peacock Methodist Church where it was at first part of the Whiteville Charge. Later, it was linked in ministry with several other surrounding Methodist congregations and became a station church in 1957. The first church building was erected in 1902 and was dedicated by Bishop John C. Kilgo with a very large congregation present. This church was in use from 1902-1953. The present church was built in 1957 to accommodate the growing congregation. This church and was dedicated on November 10. 1957 with Bishop P.N. Garber, presiding. It was designed by Architect, J. Whitney Cunningham. The exterior of the church is gray stone. The lovely sanctuary is on the lower level with the fellowship hall, kitchen, and parlor behind. The second floor contains the pastor’s study and Sunday School classrooms. The sanctuary features beautiful imported stained-glass windows in the exterior walls and in the chancel area. These were purchased by church members as memorial windows to honor those who served and loved the church. 2024 renovations added new carpet and interior paint. More than 40 Methodist pastors have served the church throughout our history. The founding pastor was Rev. Alexander R. Raven with Rev. Dr. Mark C. Hicks as the current pastor. We give thanks to God for all who have gone before us and we invite all to come a worship with us!
